In 1985, the B&CMA established the Safety Awards Contest in an effort to raise awareness for the importance of safety in the workplace.  The Safety Awards would serve to recognize those member bakeries that demonstrate a healthy and safe work environment.  

The Contest: 
The Chairman’s Award of Safety Excellence represents the best overall record among member bakeries of the B&CMA and is structured so
each member's individual plants compete against other plants of similar size.  


The Recognition Awards
acknowledge improvement within a plant.  


Award Categories Include:  

AWARD OF SAFETY MERIT: Plants that achieved a DART incidence rate that is at least 50% below the current rate for the cookie and cracker industry and an improvement over the previous year.

CERTIFICATE OF SAFETY ACHIEVEMENT: Plants that achieved a DART incidence rate that is at least 50% below the current rate for the cookie and cracker industry.

CERTIFICATE OF SAFETY IMPROVEMENT: Plants that decreased/improved their DART incidence rate over that recorded for the previous year.


Winners of the 2010 Chairman's Award for Safety Excellence

B&CMA Chairman Rob Ellis, Ellison Bakery Inc., presented the Chairman's Award for Safety Excellence to the following bakeries on May 2, 2011 at the B&CMA 86th Annual Convention held in Dallas, TX. These winners had the best (the least) DART incidence rate in 2010 for their bakery size.
